Zhang Leihua 张雷华
Zhang Leihua (b. Hangzhou 1986) is Assistant Director of island6 Arts Center. A graduate of Shanghai Teachers University with a degree in finance, Zhang is involved with every area of island6, acting as Chief Financial Officer, production supervisor, coordinator of exhibition openings, artistic advisor and public relations manager to the Chinese media. Zhang is the Head of Admissions for the island6 Residency Program and director of the island6 Writers and Research team. His approval is the final stage for all works passing from the island6 laboratory to the island6 gallery.
At the academic level, Zhang reverses the discouragement professors of Chinese art can elicit onto young talents. Zhang irresistibly summons and recruits the spirit of the new generation of Chinese artists away from market-dictated individuality, curatorial projects and the signature series, into collective orientations that afford greater discourse, solidarity and strength to creatively and strategically merge in order to retain their integral stamina in the face of aesthetic individualism and social limitations, and systems which curtail plenitude and limit the creative potential found in spontaneity and group spirit. He is an aspiring dancer and a choreography consultant to the collective Liu Dao, specifically Wu Yandan, Li Lingxi and Chaim Gebber.
